January Newsletter 2024

Happy New Year from us at Paradigm360 Wellness! We're excited to kick off 2024 with some exciting updates that we feel will best support all of you on your health journey. We've incorporated a more streamlined client portal through Healthie, supplemental support through our FullScript® dispensary, and we are now recommending functional lab testing with counseling/educational coaching calls on your results. Also, each month we'll have a challenge that is sure to provide positive results for your overall health and we encourage you to join us!

Monthly Challenge: "Dry January". To help kickstart your health goals for 2024, we challenge you to accompany us in a "Dry January." Yes! You heard that right! We will go alcohol free for the whole month of January. Why are we encouraging this challenge? Well, while some alcohol options are better than others, all alcohol is acidic and inflammatory on the body. Consuming alcohol, even in small quantities, stresses the systems in your body, leaving you tired and fatigued. Plus, plants that are used to produce alcoholic products contain estrogen-like substances like phytoestrogens (see study at bottom of newsletter).

Join us as we go alcohol-free in January! We recommend journaling to keep track of how you feel during the challenge. You may find you have more time and energy to do all of the things you have been meaning to do. We would love for you to share your experiences with us. Use #dryjanuary and tag us on facebook/instagram so we can celebrate your success! Be sure to save your holiday vodka for one of our featured recipes in February!

(*Please note: if you drink more than 3 alcoholic beverages every or most nights, please discuss your plan for abstaining with your healthcare provider*)

Monthly Movement: In October, we attended a Wise Traditions conference in Kansas City. Isaac Chilton, a structural integration and movement teacher, gave a wonderful lecture on why natural movements are essential and necessary for optimal health. He brought up the modern day comforts/luxuries that have hardened our body's fascia and contrasted those to the lifestyles of our ancestors.

We are born with an instinct to "play." Children crawl, climb, run, balance, jump, carry, etc as forms of play. This is necessary and actually helps build capable, healthy bodies. But think about it....when was the last time you climbed a tree or leaped over a stream with running water? Most adults spend their days sitting at a computer, sitting to eat a meal that was quick and easy, sitting to watch tv after a long day, then sleeping in a temperature controlled room with a soft bed. He encouraged us to remember how you use to move as a child.

Crawling is one of those movements. We encourage you to spend some time daily crawling on your hands and knees or toes. Crawling engages the entire body; strengthening the core, shoulders, and legs. It changes the shapes your body is able to make, keeping your fascia flexible. So get crawling!

Recipe of the Month

Featured Ingredient: Tart Cherry Juice

Tart cherry juice has been shown to have many positive effects on health.  It has been noted to help reduce blood pressure, aids in weight loss, reduces inflammation in muscles and joint, and so much more!   We have included it in our recipes of the month to help you get into sleep mode.   It contains a natural form of melatonin and helps your body feel calm and relaxed.  Some say that tart cherry juice can have as strong effect on the body as a sleeping pill!    Check out our mocktail recipe for a sleepy time night cap for adults and our tart cherry gummies to help relax the restless child at bedtime.

Tart Cherry Evening Mocktail

Ingredients: ½ ounce organic maple syrup, 1oz organic lemon/lime juice, 1 cup organic tart cherry juice (not from concentrate), 1 knob grated organic ginger, 1 handful organic mint, sprinkle of cinnamon, and ice made with filtered water.

Directions: Muddle the maple syrup, grated ginger, mint, and cinnamon. Add mixture and juices to shaker. Shake thoroughly and pour through strainer into glasses with ice. Optional:  Garnish glass with a sprig of rosemary.

Tart Cherry Bedtime Gummies

Ingredients:  2 cups organic tart cherry juice, 1 tbs organic lemon/lime juice,  1/2 cup grass fed gelatin powder, 1/4 cup raw local honey, and pinch of sea salt

Directions:  Pour the tart cherry juice and lemon/lime into a saucepan.  Add in the grass fed gelatin powder. Stir and wait a few minutes while the gelatin "blooms".  Over low heat, add raw honey and salt. Stir the mixture until the gelatin has dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and pour the syrupy mixture into silicone moulds or a coconut oil greased glass/ceramic dish. Place in the refrigerator for 2 hours to harden. Remove and pop the gummies out from the moulds, or slice into bite-sized cubes. Store in the refrigerator in a sealed glass container for 1 week. Enjoy 1 or 2 before bedtime!

*Note:  It is important for the honey not to be heated at too high of a temperature.

Food Sensitivity IgG At-Home Lab Test

This test is a great way to get insight on which foods may be causing hidden immune reactions that most people write off as a "normal part of aging" or reactions that healthcare providers can't seem to find a cause for. This test looks at 190 common food sensitivities and IgG reactions (delayed reactions, 24-72 hours after consumption).
